Oh a new field to kick starts a late afternoon game. Venue so near to the wonderful National Stadium but the field standard no way near. Thought the organizer changed us to a better field from the unplayable Fernvale to Mountbatten (Singapore Association for the Deaf) but some questions are still left to be answered.
We certainly envied the rich number of players from HP11 which Tusser seldom have this luxury these days. We could only muster 12 strong players for tense encounter.
After last week screw-up of league fixture, the team is relaxed yet eager to play this game.
Although the first half was scoreless, the match was filled with end to end stuff with both teams coming close to taking the lead. Tusser with strict instruction to play with confidence, have good touches and some link play in the 1st half. Z-hao excelled in this half with his forays from right back, some of his crossed almost manufacture goal scoring chances. 0-0
The second period saw Tusser going behind early to an unexpected long shot which rebounded off the cross bar, and the HP11 striker was on hand to finish the ‘gift’. Although with a debate Tusser dominated this half with lots of processions although HP11 really threatened with their swift counter attack and really should have finished off the game. Talisman Tong began to pull strings from the middle. The first 11 was playing well that the management team in the sideline is having headaches of whom to replace with Royston. Our equalizer came courtesy of a penalty from Derek. His sublime finish in the corner past the keeper gave Tusser a breathing space. Francis won the penalty with his unusual penetration down the middle who received a one-two pass back from Derek. Francis was deemed to have bumped off unfairly by 2 HP11 players. Honours even.
Therefore with only a draw, our survival is still open to considerable doubt. Nevertheless, we hope we are peaking at the right time to finish strongly. I would have called for just another 3 more strong performance from the team.
Tong gets the thumbs up for this game who was sometimes critised for showing too much dribbling but clearly today he orchestrated a masterclass display
