Tusser extended their near impregnable lead at the summit of the Division to 6 points on Sunday courtesy of a routine 3-1 victory over bottom cellar Olympique. Tusser started before this game hoping to get their 5th win in 6 games. You know you will need more than your football skills when you see the condition at Katong.
Tusser started with a conservative 5-3-2. Tusser grabbed an early lead in the 7th min after a ball was flighted in from the left. The determined Fatt managed to get in front of the defence and side foot in. This goal added his tally to 9 for the season and a good running for the TOP SCORER award. In similar fashion to the last league game, Tusser could get their smooth passing in play. Tusser doubled their lead in only the 15 mins when another ball played from defense was missed by the French last man, Daniel capitalize on the chance as he raced forward and placed it under the keeper. With a healthy lead to defend, Tusser began to slack. Olympique continued to take their fight to the end, with heads refusing to go despite the early setback. Our fullbacks were made to play extra hard contributed by the heavy ground. Oly introduced their new Number 9 who was instrumental in their getting a goal back. Their striker evaded our defender to head in a goal. Our passiveness prompted Oly to come at us although they don really troubled Wenjie. Tusser then made few substitutions before the break to freshen the subs.
The half team talk by the manager was to grind a result albeit the heavy ground. With only a goal advantage, Tusser will look to score one early again to kill the game. The opening exchanges of the half clearly showing all the players trying to get a grip on the match, its more of a muddy fight. Oly clearly made full use of the left side of the pitch to launch their attack. They almost got back after a succession of corners; the ball was ping pong around in the penalty box causing confusion.
Tusser tried hard from anywhere to shoot and even when near to the goal, all shots were blocked by the Oly defense. Jerald almost scored with a long shot after spotting the keeper out of position. Tusser was forced to put early diagonals balls to cause panic in the French camp. Although the fouls counts were few and between, in a certain free kick Jerald hit the cross bar with the rebound failing to reach a Tusser player. Dennis still looked someone who can easily contest the Left back slot with the elite. With almost time running out, Tusser killed the game from a moment of brilliance from Alan who was unmarked as he collected a short pass corner from Peng. With a delicious cross , Shern was on hand to head in unmarked. Good goal and it certainly killed the spirit of the opposition. The match ended with all players covered in mud. 3-1 to Tusser
Though the football on parade wasn’t exactly eye candy, it’s the win that’s matters most. Most of the post mortem talks had made everyone think how to improve the play.
Ovations for Senior like Hom, Alan, Mac, Dennis, and Chew Yang who we know they are available when the team needs them. With the calibre of this sort, we know their standard is on par if not better than any players in the Elite on a SUNDAY.
Tusser now only need a point from 3 games to become champions.
This week, I have listed some of the notable post mortem so that everyone can ponder of how to make the team play well and understand each other.
1. Need to learn and keep possession if not will be constant pressure
2. Fitness is key beside having the skills to succeed
3. Getting in more challenges
4. Knowing the strength and weakness of ur own players.
5. Strikers need to learn and spread the play , bringing the attacking players into play.
If there are still anymore good ones , please kindly add in comments. thanks
